Two from Matale arrested for possessing Parrot, Sri Lanka Hill Myna

Colombo, April 22 (Daily Mirror) - Two suspects were arrested by Wildlife Officers in separate incidents in Matale for illegally capturing and possessing a parrot and a Sri Lanka Hill Myna.

One suspect was arrested in the Diganahena area of Maberiya, Matale, following information received by the Wildlife Department. He was found in possession of a parrot and was produced before the Matale Magistrate’s Court. He was released on a surety bail of Rs. 100,000. The parrot was handed over to the Giritale Veterinary Hospital. The next hearing of the case is scheduled for May 22.

Meanwhile, another suspect was arrested in the Kaludewala area of Sudugahawatta, Matale, for possessing a Sri Lanka Hill Myna. He was also released on a surety bail of Rs. 100,000 by the Matale Magistrate, who ordered the bird to be handed over to the Giritale Veterinary Hospital. The next hearing of this case is scheduled for September 18.
