Two arrested with over 3 MT ammonium nitrate in Matara

 The Special Task Force (STF) arrested two suspects with a large haul of ammonium nitrate, gelignite sticks, ignition threads etc., in the Matara and Gandara police areas.

The raids were carried out based on intelligence alert received by the STF Special Operations Unit.

Acting on it, the STF recovered 3,050 kg of ammonium nitrate, 672 gelignite sticks and over 500m ignition threads.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the explosives were stored under the guise of running a quarry.

The explosives and the suspects were handed over to the Matara Police for further investigations.(DSB)
