Colombo, April 29 (Daily Mirror) - Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage said a “Cricket Transformation Committee” has been appointed to rebuild Sri Lankan cricket and guide it toward a stronger future.

“We want to take Sri Lankan cricket from where it is now to a completely different, better place,” he said.

The Minister said the new body has been appointed under the Sports Act to oversee cricket administration and introduce immediate reforms.

The Minister clarified that the new body is not merely an "interim committee" in the traditional sense but is specifically designated as the "Cricket Transformation Committee." This team of nine experts is tasked with restructuring the administrative framework of Sri Lankan cricket to pull it out of its current state and restore its former glory.

He said the committee features a distinguished lineup of former cricketers and legal experts, chaired by former Minister Eran Wickramaratne. It includes legendary players such as Kumar Sangakkara, Roshan Mahanama and Sidath Wettimuny. The legal and administrative expertise is further bolstered by President's Counsel Dinal Philips, President's Counsel Upul Kumarapperuma, Thushira Radella, Avanti Colombage and Prakash Schaffter.

Minister Gamage said the main goal of the committee is to rebuild Sri Lankan cricket, meet public expectations and form a winning team in a short time.

"We want to take Sri Lankan cricket from where it is now to a completely different, better place," the Minister stated, acknowledging that the task of transformation is a significant and challenging responsibility.
The Minister said that the Restructuring Committee will manage all administrative and operational functions until a fresh election can be held.

While a specific timeframe for the transition has not yet been set, the Minister said that the committee would first meet to draft a comprehensive plan and consult with stakeholders before announcing the duration of their tenure.
