Those who try to stop MP Premalal Jayasekera from attending Parliament can be taken before the Privilege Committee, Government MP Dilan Perera told Parliament today.

"MP Jayasekara was sworn in based on the concept of ' presumption of innocence' under which a person is presumed innocent till proven guilty. Mr Jayasekara has filed an appeal against the death sentence. Therefore he is presumed innocent till the Appeal Court finds him guilty as per the presumption of innocence concept," Mr. Perera said.

"The opposition is so bankrupt politically that it takes a swipe on the dead body found near Parliament. The person who was found dead near Parliament had actually committed suicide. Therefore there is no point in putting into the government's account," he added.(Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
