The day where the country is going to plunge in darkness indefinitely due to the current fuel crisis is imminent and cannot be prevented, Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) United Trade Union Alliance Convener Ranjan Jayalal said.
He told the Daily Mirror that they had to run the power plants on a day to day basis unless the CEB is supplied with adequate fuel.
"The 160 MW power genration by the Kelanitissa combined cycle power plant has ground to a halt and the other 140 MW power generator will be shut down after 2.00 pm today.
The Sapugaskanda thermal power station today received 900 metric tons of fuel and resumed operations, he said.
If the required fuel is not received, the power station too have to be shut down tomorrow, Mr. Jayalal said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
