Colombo, May 16 (Daily Mirror) - Suspended Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon is scheduled to appear before the committee of inquiry investigating into allegations of misconduct and serious abuse of office against him on Monday at 2:00 p.m.
The Committee of Inquiry is chaired by Supreme Court Justice P.P. Surasena and includes Justice W.M.N.P. Iddawala and E.W.M. Lalith Ekanayake, Chairman of the National Police Commission (Ex-officio).
Parliament passed a resolution on April 8 under Section 5 of the Removal of Officers (Procedure) Act, No. 5 of 2002, authorising the formation of the committee to examine charges against Tennakoon under Sections 3(d) and 3(e), read with Section 5 of the Act.
Meanwhile, the Acting Inspector General of Police has appointed a team to assist the ongoing investigations, following a request from the Committee of Inquiry.
