Sumanasara Thera expelled

Colombo, August 5 (Daily Mirror) - Ven. Badulugammana Sumanasara Thera has been removed from the post of Chief Incumbent of Nagala Rajamaha Vihara in Bibila and expelled from the Malwatta Chapter for distorting the doctrine and violating the norms of the Sangha Sasana.

The press communique issued by the Chief Lekakadhikari of the Malwatta Chapter Ven. Dr. Pahamune Sumangala Thera said the Karaka Sangha Sabha of the Malwatta Chapter that met on May 04, 2024 had decided to remove Ven. Sumanasara Thera as Chief Sanghanayake of Wellassa- Binthenna-and the Eastern Province for violating the noble traditions of the Mahasangha.

“However he was summoned before the Karaka Sangha Sabha on August 11, 2024 and admonished to strictly adhere to the norms of the Sangha Sasana and the discipline of the Buddhist monks. Although he agreed with the Karaka Sangha Sabha he continued to engage in activities unbecoming of a Buddhist monk and even formed a new sect based on his ideology named “ Ceyhela Gauthama Sri Sambhddha Maha Nikaya” distorting the traditions of the Sangha Sasana and the preachings of the Buddha.”

The press release further said that the Karaka Sangha Sabha headed by Mahanayake of the Malwatta Chaper Ven. Thibbotuwewe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera decided to remove Ven. Sumanasara Thera from his posts and to expel him from the Malwatta Chapter.
