Student dies after falling from greasy pole

Colombo, April 17 (Daily Mirror) - A 16-year-old school student died after falling from a greasy pole while helping to prepare for an Avurudu festival in the Elpitiya area today (17).

The tragic incident occurred at the playground near Siriwijayaramaya Temple in Amugoda, Pitigala, where preparations were underway for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year games.

According to police, the student fell from a height of approximately 40 feet and later succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to the Elpitiya Base Hospital.

The victim had recently sat for the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examinations and was awaiting results at the time of the incident.
