Flight UL 404 to Bangkok took off with an inspiring crew in the cockpit as SriLankan Airlines operated the journey with an all-female team.
Led by Captain Madini Wijesinghe, the eight-member crew showcased their skill and professionalism, highlighting the airline’s commitment to empowering women in aviation on the International Women’s Day.
The flight, which carried 130 passengers, took off from Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo and arrived in Bangkok, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s ongoing commitment to promoting gender equality within the aviation industry.
The all-female crew made their return journey to Colombo on the same day, once again highlighting the airline’s progressive efforts to empower women in traditionally male-dominated fields.
The special flight was organised not only to honour the International Women’s Day but also to demonstrate the professionalism and capabilities of the female crew members at SriLankan Airlines. The team included women in all key positions, from the cockpit to the cabin, symbolising the airline’s unwavering commitment to fostering female talent and leadership within the aviation sector.
Captain Wijesinghe, who led the flight, expressed her pride in commanding the all-female crew.
“It is an incredible honour to lead such a dedicated and talented team. This flight is a testament to the outstanding capabilities of SriLankan Airlines’ female staff and our shared commitment to excellence in the aviation industry. I hope today’s flight will inspire many more women to pursue careers in aviation,” said Captain Wijesinghe.
