Colombo, January 28 (Daily Mirror) - The Government of Japan has agreed to provide a grant of 300 million Yen to Sri Lanka at the request of the Sri Lankan government, for the procurement of 28 garbage compactors to enhance waste management efforts under the 'Clean Sri Lanka' programme.

The 'Clean Sri Lanka' programme aims to transform the country into a clean, sustainable and environmentally responsible model.

A key challenge to achieving this vision has been the lack of advanced waste management infrastructure.

The 28 garbage compactors will be used to improve the waste management capacity in local government institutions across the Western, Northern and Eastern Provinces. The compactors will be distributed as follows: 14 for the Western Province, 8 for the Eastern Province, and 6 for the Northern Province.

This initiative will be implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Administration, as well as the provincial and local governments.
