May 4 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka and the Maldives today signed seven Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering a range of key sectors, following the official state ceremony to welcome Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu.

The agreements, which focus on tourism, education, higher education, health, sports, youth development, archives and defence, were announced at a joint press conference chaired by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake after bilateral talks at the Presidential Secretariat.

President Dissanayake expressed appreciation to President Muizzu for accepting the invitation to visit Sri Lanka and for the humanitarian assistance extended during recent disaster periods.

Highlighting climate change as a shared challenge, he noted that rising sea levels and increasing global temperatures pose serious concerns for both island nations.

The President also invited the Maldives to explore investment opportunities in sectors such as information technology, artificial intelligence, fisheries, agricultural processing, tourism, real estate and urban infrastructure.

He further stated that President Muizzu is scheduled to participate in a business forum tomorrow (May 5), expressing confidence that it will help strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
