Colombo, May 28 (Daily Mirror) - Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, in his Hajj message, stressed the need for building faith, trust and peace among all citizens of the nation.
Following is the full message:
The celebration of Hajj, which marks the completion of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca by Islamic devotees during the month of Dhul-Hijjah in the Islamic calendar, stands as the fifth pillar of Islam that shapes the life of a Muslim. Therefore, understanding the profound meaning conveyed through the Hajj pilgrimage is of utmost importance. Every Muslim who possesses the financial and physical ability is required to perform the Hajj pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime. Its purpose is the purification of the soul, submission to God, and the affirmation of unity and equality among all people across the world. The gathering of millions for the Hajj pilgrimage with one shared purpose, dressed in the same simple attire regardless of race, colour or status, offers a powerful message to humanity. The ultimate objective of the Hajj pilgrimage is to cultivate peace and faith within the hearts of all people. Many of the challenges we face today stem from the mistrust that has developed among human beings. As a result, peace has been shattered. The wars and conflicts unfolding around the world today remind us that peace and faith within our hearts must be strengthened even further. Likewise, our motherland is currently going through a period of hardship and uncertainty about the future. This sacred festival teaches us that we must endure and navigate such moments in life with resilience and hope. At this challenging time, we can rebuild our nation through unity, not division. It requires courage and strength to recognise the truth as it is, and to speak and act upon it fearlessly. To achieve this, commitment, sacrifice, mutual understanding and goodwill are essential. The noble teachings reflected through the celebration of Hajj provide us with many exemplary lessons for this purpose. By correctly understanding and practicing those teachings at this moment, we can truly realize the meaning and spirit of the Hajj pilgrimage. Let us dedicate ourselves to that path. Let us act according to the true teachings of Islam, which beautifully embody unity in diversity. I extend my heartfelt wishes to all Muslim brothers and sisters in Sri Lanka for a blessed Hajj.
