STF seizes Kerala cannabis worth over Rs.40Mn smuggled from India

Three suspects have been arrested with over 260kg of Kerala cannabis during a raid by the Special Task Force of Police (STF) in Kiribathgoda.

The STF said the seized haul of cannabis has a street value of more than Rs. 40 million.

One million rupees earned from the sale of Kerala cannabis, a cab and a car were also confiscated during the raid.

The raid was carried out by the STF team attached to the Gonahena camp.

The arrested men aged between 28 and 55 are residents of Kelaniya, Colombo 5 and 7.

Further questioning of the arrested, it came to light that the contraband was smuggled from India to Sri Lanka by boats.

Cannabis and the suspects were handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
