SP, certain areas in WP suffer power outage

The Southern Province (SP) and several areas in the Western Province (WP) have been affected due to sudden disruption to electricity supply, Power and Energy Development Director and Media Spokesperson Sulakshana Jayawardena said.

He told the Daily Mirror that the areas where the power distribution centres are located at Pannipitiya, Ratmalana, Dehiwala, Horana, Mathugama and Ambalangoda and the whole of the Southern Province were affected by the disruption.

Due to the breakdown in the 220 KV transmission line running from Biyagama to Pannipitiya and the 132KV line from New Lakshapana to Balangoda were subject to power outage.

The CEB expresses doubt as to whether lightning might have been the cause for the sudden power interruption, he said.

However, the power was restored immediately, he added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
