The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) today questioned if prostitution would be legalized in the Colombo Port City and if permission would be granted for casinos as well.

SJB CEO, Ajith Perera told a media conference that prostitution was legal where ever there were casinos in every part of the world and they wondered whether the  situation would be the same in the Colombo Port City as well.

Perera urged the government to re-look at the legislation which had been gazetted to set up an institution to administer the Colombo Port City, stating that this legislation would convert the Port City into a separate administrative Unit.

"This will be similar to Hong Kong and China," Mr. Perera said.

"People living in apartments within the city will have a new different set of laws while the existing laws will apply to other dewellers in Colombo," he added.

"Also the government should look into the geo political situation when putting in place laws and regulations to Port City," he added. (Yohan Perera)
