Colombo, May 13 (Daily Mirror) - A sanitation worker attached to the Polonnaruwa Provincial Revenue District Office was arrested by anti-corruption officials today (13) for allegedly obtaining a bribe to alter a land valuation report linked to a government land transfer.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) said the suspect, employed as a sanitation worker at the office, had allegedly sought Rs. 50,000 from a resident in return for undervaluing a plot of land in an official report.

The manipulated valuation was intended to reduce the stamp duty payable for the transfer of the land deed, investigators said.

Following a complaint lodged by the resident, CIABOC officers launched an operation and arrested the suspect at around 9.27 a.m. while allegedly accepting Rs. 35,000 at the District Revenue Office premises.

The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Polonnaruwa Magistrate’s Court.
