Returning Officer to decide on the date: EC

Election Commission (EC) Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya, in a response to Prof. S.R.H. Hoole, said it was the job of the district Returning Officer (RO) to decide on the date in keeping with the Supreme Court ruling.

He told Daily Mirror that the Court had ordered the Returning Officer to act on this matter with the Returning Officer having sought the EC’s views on the date of his choice.

“I and the other Commission member Nalin Abeysekara, agreed. Then, there is an agreement - two to one. The Returning Officer is alright with it,” Mr. Deshapriya said. (Kelum Bandara)
