Red alert on 10 districts for severe lightning today: Met Dept.

A Red alert on thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning has been issued for 10 districts today, the Department of Meteorology said.

Accordingly, thundershowers accompanied by lightning are likely to occur at several places in in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Northwestern provinces and in Anuradhapura, Galle and Matara districts during the afternoon or night.

Therefore, the general public is cautioned to take necessary precautions to safeguard themselves against the squall and lightning, the department said.

Accordingly, the 10 districts which are named as follows: Anuradhapura, Puttalam, Kurunegala, Gampaha, Kegalle, Colombo, Kalutara, Ratnapura, Galle and Matara they said.

The Meteorology Department cautioned people not to seek shelter under trees but to stay indoors. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
