Ranjan’s Parliamentary seat: CoA to issue order to respondents on March 31

The Court of Appeal today decided to issue an order with regard to issuing notices to the respondents of the writ petition filed by former State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake, seeking an injunction restraining him from losing his parliamentary seat on March 31. 

The petition was heard by two-bench judges comprising of Justice Arjuna Obeyesekere and Justice Mayadunne Correa during the last three days. 

Attorney-at-Law Suren Fernando appearing for petitioner Ranjan Ramanayake, requested the Court that it will be three months on April 8 since sentencing his client and requested the Court to issue the above order before that date. 

Earlier, the CoA extended the stay order directing the Secretary-General of Parliament not to take any action regarding SJB MP  Ramanayake's parliamentary seat until March 24. (Yoshitha Perera)
