Colombo, June 7 (Daily Mirror) - Rainy conditions are expected to intensify in the south-western parts of the island starting June 10, accompanied by strong gusty winds both over land and in surrounding sea areas, the Department of Meteorology said.
In a statement, the Department urged the public to stay alert to future weather forecasts as conditions are likely to change rapidly.
Several spells of showers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western Provinces, as well as in the districts of Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur during the afternoon or night in parts of the Northern and Uva Provinces, and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts.
Fairly strong winds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph are also forecast over the western slopes of the central hills, and in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, and Southern Provinces, including the Trincomalee district.
The public is requested to take necessary precautions to minimise damage from temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
