Rain and strong winds expected today

Colombo, June 14 (Daily Mirror) - The Meteorology Department says showers or thundershowers will occur at times today (14) in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.

A few showers may also occur in the Mannar and Anuradhapura districts.

Meanwhile, strong winds of around 40 to 50 kilometres per hour are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern and North-Central provinces, and the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. Fairly strong winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour may occur at times in other parts of the island.

The Department has urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
