Prisoners won’t get released easily in future because of Presidential pardon drama: Opposition MP

Colombo, June 10 (Daily Mirror) - Prisoners will not be able to come out on time during Vesak Poya or on any other occasion because of the Presidential pardon drama, an Opposition MP said.

Opposition MP Dayasiri Jayasekera told a media briefing that no prisoners will be able to obtain a pardon and leave the prison on time during Vesak Poya or on any other occasion because of the Presidential pardon drama.

“This drama will force the prison officials, officials attached to the Ministry of Justice and the President’s office to check and re-check the list of prisoners who are to be pardoned. They will have to do it to determine whether the list contains names of those who are really eligible to get pardons or to see whether there is any tampering. This checking will lead to delays in the actual release of prisoners even during Vesak Poya,” the MP said.
