Prisoner found hanging in prison cell

A prisoner was found dead hanging in a cell at the Matara Prisons this morning, the Prisons Department said.

They said the inmate, a resident of Matara, had been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment over a child abuse incident recently. The body had been sent to the Matara Hospital for post mortem examination.
