Sniffers dogs Johnny and Roma of the Police Kennels Division have been given special training to identify mosquito larvae.
Police Spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana said Sri Lanka Police has around 200 sniffer dogs and they use them to investigate crimes, identify suspects, detect explosives and narcotics.
In addition to kennels are being trained to use them to prevent crimes, special training has been given to the police sniffer dogs Johnny and Roma at the Kandy Kennels Division to detect mosquito larvae, SDIG Rohana said.
Accordingly, the assistance of the sniffer dogs will be obtained during various raids and inspections carried out by the Environmental Protection Police officers.
The spokesman said more sniffer dogs will be trained in the near future to use them in such environmental operations.(DSB)
