PM happy to see Turkish coup foiled

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe expressed his support for Turkey's democratic government following the coup attempt by a section of the country’s military on Saturday that was thwarted.

In a statement the Premier stated that people of the world who valued democracy would be happy to hear the foiling of the attempt to overthrow a democratic rule in Turkey through a military coup.

He said he was happy that the President and Turkish Prime Minister of Turkey had been able to protect the democratic rule in that country and assured the support of Sri Lanka and its people to the leaders of Turkey.
