Over 19,000 dansals registered for Poson Poya Day around the country

Colombo, June 10 (Daily Mirror) - A total of 19,185 dansals have been registered to be held around the country in celebration of Poson Poya Day, Additional Secretary (Public Health Services) at the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, Consultant Dr. Lakshmi Somatunga said.

While releasing the official figures, Dr. Somatunga noted that arrangements have been made to monitor public health standards at these dansals, which are a cherished tradition during Poson, offering free food and drinks to devotees and the public.

According to the registered list, the distribution of dansals by district is as follows:

• Colombo – 944
• Gampaha – 1,792
• Kalutara – 977
• Kandy – 1,264
• Matale – 812
• Nuwara Eliya – 352
• Galle – 1,186
• Matara – 1,021
• Hambantota – 533
• Jaffna – 3
• Kilinochchi – 3
• Mullaitivu – 17
• Vavuniya – 21
• Mannar – 2
• Batticaloa – 9
• Ampara – 584
• Kalmunai – 14
• Trincomalee – 152
• Kurunegala – 2,114
• Puttalam – 731
• Anuradhapura – 2,301

Dr. Somatunga added that special attention will be paid to food safety, sanitation, and waste management at these sites, ensuring a safe and meaningful Poson celebration for all.
