Over 1,000 COVID-19 cases reported in WP

The total number of COVID-19 cases identified in the Western Province surpassed the 1,000 mark yesterday, the National Operation Centre for Prevention of Covid-19 Outbreak said.

A total of 1,914 cases were reported in the country yesterday and a majority of those cases were reported in the Gampaha District for the second consecutive day.

Accordingly, the total number of Covid-19 cases reported in the Gampaha District stood at 542 while 531 Covid-19 cases were reported in the Colombo District.

A total of 116 cases have been reported from Kalutara.

Among the highest cases reported in the Gampaha District were, 113 cases from Dompe, 101 from Kirindiwela, 80 from Pugoda and 30 Seeduwa police areas.

A total of 208 Covid-19 cases out of 531 cases reported in the Colombo District have been identified from the Kesbewa and Piliyandala Police areas.

In addition, 112 cases in Galle and 85 in Kandy Districts also reported.

A total of 54 persons who had arrived in the country from abroad were also among those infected.

Meanwhile, a special technical team from the Ministry of Health is to visit Piliyandala and Kesbewa this morning to assess the situation and report to the Director General of Health Service.(DSB)
