Northern SLTB Manager arrested for accepting Rs.60,000 as bribe

Acting Regional Manager of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) in the Northern Province had been arrested by the Bribery Commission’s officials for accepting a bribe of Rs. 60,000.

Director (Investigations) of the Bribery Commission, SSP Padmini Weerasuriya, said that the suspect was arrested at Pallimune in Mannar today following a complaint made by an accountant in Mannar.

She said the officials at the Jaffna SLTB Office had been conducting a disciplinary inquiry against the complainant, the accountant.

The arrested Manager had asked for a bribe from the complainant assuring that he will take steps to get him released from the charges through the officials at the head office, Colombo.

The arrested suspect to be produced in the Mannar Magistrate’s Court.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
