No decision to cut salaries of state or private sector employees: Govt.

No decision has been taken by the government to make pay cuts of any state or private sector employees, Cabinet Spokesman and Media Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said.

Addressing the media at the weekly cabinet meeting, he said none of the politicians proposed  pay cuts for employees, but several requests have been made.

Since the opening of the COVID fund, every cabinet minister has contributed Rs.10,000 from their monthly salary to the fund, including the provincial council members. The process has continued so far and it will continue further.

As a party, we have not made any attempt to create funds by forcing or pressurising anyone. Therefore, the Minister denied all media reports published regarding the COVID fund. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
