Navy helps extinguish container fire at Colombo Port

Colombo, January 31 (Daily Mirror) - The fire brigade of the Ports Authority, Colombo sprang into action to extinguish a fire that erupted unexpectedly in a container at the terminal of Bandaranaike Quay IV (BQ IV) in the Port of Colombo on the night of 30 Jan 25.  A Sri Lanka Navy's firefighting team from the Western Naval Command also rendered assistance in these  efforts. 

At approximately 1945 hrs, smoke was observed emanating from a container at the BQ IV terminal and a minor fire had broke out.

In response, the Sri Lanka Navy swiftly mobilized a team specialized in Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) affairs from the Western Naval Command. Firefighting vehicles were also deployed to the scene, for assistance.

The fire brigade of the Colombo Ports Authority successfully unlocked the container and contained the fire, preventing its spread.
