Colombo, May 17 (Daily Mirror) - Muslims in Sri Lanka will celebrate the Hajj festival (Eid al-Adha) on May 28, according to an announcement by the Colombo Grand Mosque.
The Colombo Grand Mosque and the Moon Sighting Committee said the crescent moon marking the beginning of Dhul Hijjah—the 12th and final month of the Islamic lunar calendar—was not sighted in Sri Lanka. As a result, May 19 has been declared the first day of Dhul Hijjah.
Accordingly, Eid al-Adha will be observed on Thursday, May 28, while Arafat Day will fall on Wednesday, May 27.
