Man rescued after being trapped under collapsed earth in Hali Ela

Colombo, May 26 (Daily Mirror) - A man who was trapped under a mound of earth following an embankment collapse in the Bogahamadiththa area of Hali Ela has been successfully rescued, the Badulla District Disaster Management Centre said today.

The incident occurred this morning when an embankment near a residence gave way, causing a large volume of soil to collapse. According to police, the man was trapped while attempting to clear the fallen earth.

An hour-long rescue operation involving local residents, police officers, fire brigade personnel, and medical staff from the Badulla Teaching Hospital led to the safe retrieval of the individual.

He was immediately admitted to the Badulla Teaching Hospital. Hospital sources later confirmed that his condition is not serious, and he remains under observation.

Authorities have urged residents in landslide-prone areas to remain vigilant, especially during periods of heavy rainfall.'
