Maharagama OIC badly injured during IUSF protest in Rajagiriya

The OIC of the Maharagama Police Chief Inspector Janakantha was critically injured when barricades were toppled by the university students during the protest yesterday in Rajagiriya. 

Tense situation prevailed near the entrance to parliament in Battaramulla due to the protest by Inter University Students' Federation members yesterday.

Police Spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana said that several police teams were deployed to control the protesters and the Maharagama OIC was in charge of one of teams.

He said the OIC was badly injured during the protest and was admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo.

Special police probe has been launched to look into this incident, the spokesman said.(DSB)
