Colobo, August 6 (Daily Mirror) - While highlighting that Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith will send a letter of demand to National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa on the remark he made on the Cardinal skipping the Easter Sunday service in 2019, spokesman for the Archdiocese of Colombo Fr. Cyril Gamini Fernando said today that it will be sent only to get Weerawansa to correct his statement.

“Letters of demand are usually sent by a party who is affected by actions or words by another merely to get the latter to correct himself or herself. Legal action is only the next step if the other party does not correct himself or herself,” Fr. Fernando told a media briefing.

Fr. Fernando dismissed the claim made by Weerawansa that Cardinal Ranjith had received prior warnings on the Easter Sunday bomb attacks.

“Former Minister Harin Fernando also made a similar claim and we have dismissed it several times,” Fr. Fernando said.

He said Archbishops of Colombo have traditionally participated only in the Easter vigil service which is held at midnight on the Saturday before Easter Sunday.

“Cardinal Ranjith participated in the Easter Vigil at St. Lucia’s Cathedral, Kotahena on April 20, 2019,” he said.
