Colombo, Feb. 12 (Daily Mirror) - The Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs and the Justice Ministry are in the process of taking legal action against unlawful activities at the Ambuluwawa site in Gampola, Minister Lal Kantha said today.
He told reporters that people in the area have been making various requests over the years to take action against the unlawful activities in Ambuluwawa.
Responding to a question, the Minister said people expect swift action when unlawful activities of this nature happen and added that however, the law must be implemented properly.
"We cannot resort to jungle laws. Considering the peoples' requests, the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs and the Justice Ministry are taking legal action," he said.
Responding to a question whether action will be taken against the public officials who have released state funds for the constructions at Ambuluwawa, the Minister said action will be taken not only against state officials but also against politicians based on complaints that have been received.
"Complaints must be formally made to respective institutions for legal action. We will take action based on complaints received so far. People were scared to make complaints due to political pressure in the past. However, now people come forward to lodge complaints," he said.
