Lawyer, wife shot dead in Akuregoda; underworld link suspected

Colombo, Feb. 13 (Daily Mirror) - An attorney who had represented underworld figure known as “Karandeniya Sudda” and his wife were shot dead this evening (13) near a supermarket in Akuregoda, police said.

The victims were inside a vehicle at the time of the shooting when two unidentified gunmen, who had arrived in another car, opened fire before fleeing the scene.

Police suspect the killing may have been ordered by “Karandeniya Sudda” over suspicions that the lawyer had allegedly provided information about his client to the organised criminal gang led by “Loku Patty.”

The deceased were identified as lawyer Mallawarachchi, a resident of Pitigala, and his wife.

Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest the suspects involved in the shooting, police added.
