Kurunegala deputy mayor arrested over bribery deal

Colombo, May 8 (Daily Mirror) - The Deputy Mayor of the Kurunegala Municipal Council and a member of the All Ceylon Makkal Congress was arrested over allegations of soliciting a Rs. 3 million bribe from a businessman in exchange for awarding a tender.

M. Ashardeen Moinudeen was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption at a hotel in Battaramulla, officials said.

Moinudeen had been elected Deputy Mayor after backing the ruling National People’s Power to secure control of the Kurunegala Municipal Council.
