Sri Lanka to receive four new cath labs worth Rs. 1.2Bn



Colombo, June 25 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka’s state hospital system is set to receive four modern catheterisation laboratory (cath lab) units within the next week, the Ministry of Health and Mass Media said.

According to the Ministry, the new facilities are being installed at the instructions of Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa as part of efforts to strengthen specialist healthcare services and expand access to life-saving cardiac treatment.

According to the Ministry, each cath lab unit is valued at Rs. 300 million, bringing the total investment for the four units to Rs. 1.2 billion.

The first unit is scheduled to be installed at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital on June 27, while another will be commissioned at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila on June 30.

In addition, two cath lab units are due to be installed at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka in Colombo on July 2.
