Colombo, May 23 (Daily Mirror) - The management of the Katunayake factory has assured to help find jobs for the employees who lost their jobs due to the factory closure, Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe said today.
He told Parliament that a discussion was held with the factory management yesterday and that they had assured to intervene in finding jobs in nearby factories in Katunayake.
"Only 1,416 will lose their jobs but 1,900 job offers have already been received," he said.
The Deputy Minister also said the factory management had assured to grant compensation to the employees who lost their jobs, exceeding the stipulated amount as per the Termination of Employment of Workmen Act.
"They agreed to give additional compensations as well. Employees who have less than one year service will recieve two months' salary and three months salary will be given to those with one to five-years service. Others will be given salaries depending on their service," he said.
