Colombo, August 6 (Daily Mirror) - A complaint has been lodged by an Inspector of Police attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), claiming that he was verbally abused and threatened by Nadun Chinthaka Wickramaratne, also known as "Harak Kata"—a well-known organized criminal and large-scale drug trafficker over a missing carbon pen.
According to senior police officials, the incident occurred yesterday (4) when the suspect was temporarily escorted out of his cell for a scheduled bathing session around 8:00 a.m. During a routine inspection of the prison premises, a carbon pen was discovered. However, after Harak Kata returned from his bath, the pen was found to be missing.
The suspect allegedly reacted aggressively, accusing an officer of taking the pen. “You’re the one who took my pen. Just wait and see what happens when I get out,” he is reported to have said, using abusive and threatening language.
The officer, an Inspector of Police attached to the Tangalle unit of the Counter-Terrorism Investigation Division (CTID), had been assigned to the old Tangalle prison on a special duty mission. He later lodged an official complaint with the Tangalle Police Headquarters, citing verbal abuse and threats made by the suspect.
Harak Kata, a high-profile organized criminal and large-scale drug smuggler, remains under tight security due to the severity of his charges and previous attempts to escape custody.
