Colombo, May 26 (Daily Mirror) - The much-anticipated animal census has run into serious trouble with its final announcement once again delayed due to major issues in data collection and validation, the Daily Mirror learns.
The committee in charge of analysing the census results is struggling with distorted and incomplete data received from several districts.
This has raised concerns about the reliability of the final figures, with some sources even suggesting the entire census might be a flop.
The draft report was originally due to be handed over to the Agriculture Ministry on March 28. However, the deadline was missed as the committee had not yet received enough reliable information.
A senior official told the Daily Mirror that while data is now coming in from multiple districts, much of it appears inaccurate and will need to be reviewed again.
Due to these ongoing challenges, providing exact numbers at this point is not practical.
However, the official added that the final results may be announced within the next two weeks, depending on the progress of data validation.
