Colombo, May 29 (Daily Mirror) - Despite the country’s commitment to a free education system, the higher education sector is currently under severe strain with mounting concerns over its capacity and infrastructure.
Due to a lack of facilities and limited infrastructure in state universities, only 40,000 students have been able to enrol this year out of 170,000 applicants.
Many students who are unable to secure university placements have been forced to choose alternative paths, including vocational training, private institutions or seeking opportunities abroad.
The Daily Mirror Editor-in-Chief Jamila Husain breaks down the latest developments in this unfolding crisis.
