The death toll of the human elephant conflict has been increasing in an alarming manner in the Anuradhapura wildlife zone and at least 33 people and 70 wild elephants have been killed in the human elephant conflict for the first ten months of this year.
This was revealed during the District Committee to Pay Compensation for Damages Caused by Wild Elephants.
The committee met under the chairmanship of Anuradhapura Addl. District Secretary Sandya Abesekara.
The Committee had approved compensation payments amounting to Rs. 57 million for the first ten months of the year and Rs.33.9 million of it had already been paid. (Thisara Samal)
