Hesha, Chaminda warn SJB leadership

SJB MPs Hesha Withanage and Chaminda Wijesiri who confirmed that they have resigned from the positions they were holding in the party, stressed that the SJB leadership should get rid of those who are engaged in conspiracies and clean up the party.

“We have resigned from the party organizer’s post a few days ago but did not go public about it.However some conspirators have leaked this information to the media. We want the party leader to find out who leaked this information to the media and take action against them,” Withanage told a press conference.   

Both MPs denied reports  that they were to cross over to the government shortly.

“SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa is in a position to become Sri Lanka’s head of state, but there are some who are out to sabotage this move. Therefore we expect Mr. Premadasa to take action against the conspirators and clean up the party,” he said.

He said there are some members of SJB in the Ratnapura District who are trying to sabotage their genuine move to bring Mr. Premadasa and SJB to power.

“I decided to resign from the party organizer post as there is no point in holding such position when others try to sabotage our efforts. If Mr. Premadasa fails to take action against these conspirators SJB will suffer the same fate as UNP,” he said.

Asked whether certain members of SJB including the Athukoralas will end his political career, Mr. Withanage said no one will be able to push him out of politics.

Wijesiri also said that he too would expect the SJB leader to clean up the party. He also made similar remarks as Withanage. (Yohan Perera)
