Heavy rains exceeding 100 mm in some areas

Colombo, May 17 (Daily Mirror)- The Meteorology Department has issued an advisory for heavy rains exceeding 100 mm at some places in the Northern Province and in the Anuradhapura and Puttalam districts.

The advisory is valid from 8.00 am today till 8.00 am tomorrow.

The Department said showers or thundershowers will occur at times in thr Northern Province and in the Anuradhapura and Puttalam districts while heavy falls above 100 mm are likely at some places in these areas.

People are requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, the Department said showery condition is expected to be enhanced in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North- western and Northern provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the next few days.
