Hangman’s rope unusable, new one to be imported

A new rope is to be purchased from abroad for the use of the hangman at the Welikada Prison, a senior prison officer said.

While a hangman’s rope had been gifted to the country by Pakistan in 2015 a recent examination of it by the Standards Bureau found it to be unusable.

Therefore, it was decided that a new rope would be purchased from abroad. (Srinath Prasanna Jayasuriya)
