Colombo, June 24 (Daily Mirror) - The Government is set to make a special announcement on its fiscal strategy in Parliament on June 30, according to a statement released by the Office of the Leader of the House.
It remains unconfirmed whether the announcement will be delivered by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake himself or by Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Anil Jayanatha.
Following the announcement, party leaders have agreed to hold an adjournment debate on the fiscal situation. The debate is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue until 4:30 p.m., lasting six and a half hours.
In a separate development, Parliament is also expected to hold another debate on the Easter Sunday attacks on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.
The attacks, which took place in 2019, have been the subject of several debates over the years.
The first parliamentary debate on the attacks was held in 2019. Subsequent discussions took place in March 2021, focusing on the findings of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry.
Another debate followed in September 2023 after the UK’s Channel 4 aired a documentary on the incident. A further session was held on April 24, 2024.
