Government to lift energy restrictions for Vesak week

Colombo, May 21 (Daily Mirror) - The final coordination meeting for the Buddha Rashmi Vesak Zone was held at Temple Trees under the patronage of Secretary to the Prime Minister Pradeep Saputhanthri.

Discussions focused on the arrangements for the Vesak Zone and the management of energy consumption during the Vesak celebrations. Participants were informed of the government’s decision to lift the regulations previously imposed on the use of fuel and electricity for the festival. Committee members overseeing the organization of the Vesak Zone also detailed the planned process during the meeting.

Chief Incumbent of Gangaramaya Temple, Venerable Dr. Kirinde Assaji Thero said that in light of the prevailing crisis, fuel and electricity would be used more economically this year. Arrangements have been made to illuminate the Vesak Zone while minimizing energy use, giving prominence to Prathipaththi Pooja and creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere through Amisa Pooja. The Vesak Zone will be open daily from 7.00 p.m. to 12.30 a.m.

The meeting was attended by Venerable Dr. Kirinde Assaji Thero, along with representatives from the Tri-Forces, Sri Lanka Police, Civil Security Department, Department of Prisons, and officials from the Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Defence.
