Claiming that the Gotabaya Rajapaksa Government did not have proper strategies to face the current economic crisis, the National Peoples' Power (NPP) today said the Government was following the same failed and outdated strategies such as printing money, obtaining loans and selling state property to face the economic crisis.
NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake told a news conference that people who voted for this Government with the hope that the country would be developed, had been hoodwinked and frustrated after one-and-a-half years and forced them to protest against the government.
He said the Rajapaksa regime has been subject to peoples' disgrace and protest within a short period of time.
"This is not solely due to the President’s personal defect. This is a result of the economic and political policy adopted for a long time. The situation has aggravated during the present regime," he said.
He said trillion rupees of money have been printed after this Government came to power and added that money exceeding Rs. 200 billion has been printed in a day last week.
"They are trying to obtain loans from China, India and Bangladesh. The third solution has been to sell state property," he said.
Mr. Dissanayake also said a large number of social issues have been created such as the collapse of rule of law and the people's confidence in the judicial system.(Ajith Siriwardana)
