Galle Bishop, eight priests contract COVID-19

Bishop of Galle Rt. Rev. Raymond Wickramasinghe and eight other priests in the Bishop’s house in Galle have been tested COVID 19 positive, Galle MOH office  said.

The Bishop and the priests have already been taken to a COVID treatment centre in a hotel in Hikkaduwa, while others have been sent to a centre in Unawatuna.

It was also reported that two staff members of the Bishop’s house have been tested positive.

Meanwhile, a special statement issued by Bishop Wickramasinghe confirmed that the Bishop’s House together with the Cathedral was isolated.

 “We don’t know when this pandemic will end, but we will have to live with it,” he said in his statement.   

The service rendered by health workers, security forces personnel, Grama Niladhari and the workers attached to municipal council is commendable,” he said.

The Bishops’ house and the cathedral have been isolated since June 17, 2021. (Yohan Perera and D.G. Sugathapala)
